Common Name: Ebony Spleenwort

Family: Aspleniaceae

Description: This Evergreen type of hardy fern has erect fertile fronds and short sterile fronds. Stalks are shiny dark brown with oblong leaflets that overlap the stalk at the base. Spore cases along veins and sometimes meet at the central vein. Can be found in old fields, along roadsides and in woods. Enjoys light shade and slightly acidic soils. Propagation can be accomplished by division or spores.
