Scientific Name: Dryopteris marginalis Common Name: Marginal Woodfern (or shield fern) Family: DryopteridaceaeDescription: This evergreen type fern is very hardy and easily established. The grayish-green fronds are lance-shaped and do not taper towards the base but the stalks are scaly especially near the base. Leaflets are thick and curve up at the tip while the kidney-shaped spore case clusters are located at the edges. It grows in forests and on rocky slopes as well as in swamps in neutral soil. Propagate by spores or division.
