Common Name: Northern Maidenhair

Family: Pteridaceae

Description: A deciduous, very hardy fern that has an attractive texture of fan-shaped whorls of leaflets held horizontally. The stalks are wiry and black while the subleaflets are oblong and toothed on one edge. The spore cases can be found along the toothed edges. Grows in rich wood in light shade and enjoys neutral soil conditions. Best propagated by spores or division.
