Virginia Chain Fern

Scientific Name: Woodwardia virginica

Common Name: Virginia Chain Fern

Family: Blechnaceae

Description: The fronds of this 2-4 ft. tall fern resemble the Cinnamon Ferns but are not clumped. The shiny stalks are dark purple-brown. It has a row of netted veins and spore cases can be found beside the veins forming chains. It's habitat includes wet spots in woods as well as swamps and bogs.
